The Story
This was a very unique job that started in February 2021.
Inspired by the heat-shield tiles on SpaceX's Starship, I sourced black hexagon tiles that create a bold, futuristic floor. The geometric pattern flows seamlessly into the rest of the space, blending high-tech edge with warm country-rustic character and modern finishes: live-edge wood, barrel vanities, copper vessel sinks, and classic log walls.
I was the first to run LED light rope the same way heated floor wire is installed in Prodeso membrane. The real challenges came while setting the tile: keeping the thinset completely clean of the future grout lines while perfectly following the slope of the curbless shower pan. Instead of traditional grout, I carefully taped every edge and hand-poured epoxy more than twenty times. Any excess would have overflowed the lowest point of the pan. After days of meticulous epoxy work, the floor remains the strongest part of the house years later, and the LEDs have never failed.
